Hi, Interweb. Happy New Year! Sorry for the absence (did you notice?), but things got a wee bit crazy around here.
LHR was here for a few wonderful days– yay!– and so we did what we do best: we ate, we drank and, of course, we shopped. Man, did we ever shop! I blame LHR and her quest for the perfect black boots. (‘Cause it’s nice to have someone to blame…
) She found them and will, no doubt, post them soon!
In the meantime, I have this outfit for you. M’s family is coming for dinner today, so this is Casual Hosting At Home. It is also Mutton-Dressed-As-Lamb.
Lace Top: Zara
Cami (under lace top): Smart Set
RED Jeans: H&M
Wooden Bangles: Top Shop
Shoes: Rodarte, Opening Ceremony (oh, yes I DID!)
Okay, Interweb, before I go, I have a Very Important Question for you. What the HELL should I do with the horror that is my hair??? I like it for about 2 days when it is first coloured– it’s pale and icy and funky I feel quite fashion-y. Then it starts to go brassy. The roots, which were the impetus behind this colour change, are much better, as they just look dark, rather than black-and-white when they start to grow back. But I just feel a little too much like this most days. (Thanks, M, for putting the image into my head, whence it can now never be expunged. Helpful.) And I wonder if it might not be better to commit to some darker, more me-ish colour and just spend a couple of hours every other week touching up the roots with drug store hair colour…. Please give me your suggestions for a new hair colour in the comments below. Thanks, Interweb!

Your outfit looks great. I really like all of it!!!
I have to agree with you about the trousers and stretching. I wore my pink ones yesterday and by the end of the day I was hiking, hiking, hiking but not up a mountain.
I like your hair. However, I know it is bugging you. Perhaps you can go even more extreme and add the bit of white/purple that everyone has in theirs. Do you know what I mean.
One of my friends who had similar hair color to yours, swears by some salon bluing shampoo that fights off the brassiness….. i think it’s the same idea behind putting some of that bluing solution into your washer to brighten whites…. Let me see if I can find a link for ya. ( It’s really not like the ones they use for horses and show dogs…)
Also…the comment thread on this product seems to have some good information:

this was the product that my friend used…of course, it’s discontinued now….

I like your hair. It is your hair. Do not let other folks make you uncomfortable.
Whatever happened to my daring child with the pink and/or orange stripes?
Thanks to all of you for your input! (The rest of you, please feel free to chime in.)
Thanks for the links, Joy. I have been using a product to combat brassiness, but the problem is (er, continues to be) that vanity compels me to have keratin hair treatments = I cannot use regular shampoo, only the keratin-friendly stuff. However, as I am about due for another keratin treatment and the last one is mostly gone from my hair, I have been using the anti-brassy, bluing shampoo & conditioner lately, mixed in with the keratin stuff.
Mum, I am not changing my hair b/c of what other people say, I am changing it because I don’t feel like ME with it this colour. It looks cheap, I think.
LHR, I’d LOVE to add purple or pink– but my students are not allowed to have any other than “natural” hair colours, so I am not sure what can of worms I’d be opening if I showed up with fun hair colours. So far, I have been (tenuously) able to argue that all my hair colours have been “natural” (ish).
I am thinking of going back to red, as it is my all-time favourite.
I love your hair colour, but I know what you mean by the brassiness. I think the copper in the pipes here might have helped balance that when I was blonder. I’m sure it’s more niticeable to you than anyone else. The bottom line is how you feel, though.
The shoes are ridiculous! Love!
I love the jeans too. Steven & Chris were extolling the virtues of bright jeans. (Yes, I’m watching a little daytime tv these days) I should invest in a pair.
Excuse the typos! Kristin went into labour very early this morning. I’m a little groggy!
