A song about a bird*, since I’ve already used up my Portlandia reference…
Strict librarian look today:

Dress: Femme de Carriere
Lace Stay-Ups: Marks & Sparks
Shoes: Globo
Put-A-Bird-On-It Necklace: Target

Yep, that is a greasy spot of SALAD DRESSING on my skirt. When will I learn to eat without wearing my meal?!

Looking totally stunned, but trying to show you my cute necklace...

*I know it’s Leonard’s, but I actually like the version in the first link better. Sorry!

YYZ: Allí Está

Today’s post is really about the necklace.
I love it,  and not just because it is so pretty.
It was a gift from YVR, from one of her trips to South America— the rock on the necklace is from an Ecuadorian volcano.  What a thoughtful gift; since I worked for a year in Ecuador, it is a place very close to my heart– the natural beauty is astounding, the seafood spoiled me forever for eating anything other than the freshest fish, but it was the people of Ecuador who really made the biggest impression. I have never met such generous, fun-loving, kind, giving people in my life.  Also, YVR and I had a good friend from Ecuador– she embodied the all-singing, all-dancing joie de vivre of the costeña completely!

I can’t wait to go back in February to see my Ecuadorian family!

FINALLY it occurs to me to stand on the opposite side of the room-- MUCH better scenery!

Top: Femme de Carriere
Jeans: H&M
Shoes: Adrienne Vittadini
Necklace: gift from YVR

This song was All. The. Rage. while I lived in Ecuador.
Enjoy! (Be sure to DANCE!)

YYZ: Run Around

Today was another Errand Day– prep for Sunday’s early Christmas celebrations!

I have an addiction to this shapeless bag of a dress.
It is comfy, it works alone or with layers, I can roll the sleeves up or down, wear it with leggings, with jeans, with tights, with bare legs, with boots, flats or heels, with a belt or without.
It cost all of $34.50, I think. Maybe it was only $29.50– I can’t remember.
It is my go-to dress and, even though I know there are more flattering things on the planet, I just don’t care: I love it anyway. 🙂

Who's that, sneaking out of the bottom of the frame?!

Dress/Tunic: H&M
Necklace, Earrings & Heathered Herringbone Tights: Anthropologie
Oxfords: Office, via Top Shop

According to the song, the River Jordan is deep and wide;
likewise the cuffs and legs of these trousers, respectively.

I rarely wear these trousers in the winter (even though they are an ideal, three-season weight), as they are too long for me to be able to get to work in my flat winter boots– the hems would drag in the snow and slush. And, of course, I can’t exactly wear my high heels out  in the snow. So, I wear the trousers in the spring and fall.
Today, with a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, I could break out my sandals and wear this comfy outfit.

Day's end = outfit looking kinda wrinkled...

Top: Smart Set, I think.
Trousers: Holt Renfrew Private Label
Necklace: made by a woman at a craft show– can’t remember her company!
Wooden Cuff: Gift from my brother
Shoes: Guess

It’s that time of year when it is hard to figure out what to wear. My pasty pins are in no condition to be bared for all to see, but tights are too heavy for the weather.
Solution?
Fishnets, of course!
Added bonus? These ones are stay-ups, so they are not as warm as full-length tights.

Sleeve detail.

Now, to figure out how I can work fishnets into my outfit every single day until I get some sun on my legs.
In, say, July.

Cardigan & Cuff: H&M
Cami: Smart Set
Skirt: Sisley
Fishnet Stay-Ups: I have no idea. Probably Secret.
Shoes: Tahari
Necklace: Costa Blanca

(Check out the groovy new banner! Good work, J!)

YYZ: Metal Queen

I dunno why, but I remembered this very old  suede skirt and thought, “Why not?”

The boots, the belt, the necklace– it all just seemed to fit together in a “heavy metal” sorta way. All in all, I think it is sort of an out-of-date look and the belt is not ideal with this particular skirt’s waist detail (it has no waistband, just a facing), but I was just not feelin’ the whole “getting dressed for work” thing today.

I apologize for this truly awful photo. No way to avoid the graininess, given the location and time of day, it seems.

Skirt: Danier
Turtleneck: H&M
Belt: No idea, but probably Winners
Necklace: Metal Pointu’s, gift from Grama

I like the Flintstones-y asymmetrical hem on this skirt, but I’m not that excited about the outfit.

Meh.

Here’s a giggle for you, though:

The blue in the post title is due to the cold– with wind chill on Friday, it was -23 degrees Celsius when I left the house. In my open-toed shabooties.
I figured I’d just be popping from house to car, from car to school–how cold could my toes get, right?

On the way to work, the gas light came on in my car.

And so I found myself in a duel with a self-serve gas pump, in my open-toed shabooties, in -23 degree cold with a brisk wind. I finally did get the wretched thing to work, but not before my fingers and toes had turned a disturbing shade of blue…As had the air around me, given the choice words I muttered throughout the ordeal.

Given LHR’s accurate assessment of this dress as being a tad too short for work, I layered it over a pair of skinny trousers today. I think this strategy sorta dampens the effect of the dress, but it does make it more work-appropriate.

Dress-worn-as-a-Tunic, Turtleneck, Skinny Trousers, Necklace: H&M
Shoes: Winners
Bracelet: Gift from my mum

Gordon helps out...
