First of all, I believe in the power of GOOD GRAMMAR. Ergo: “I believe in the power of you and I me.” Poor grammar and schmaltzy Chariots-of-Fire-inspired cheesy 80s drum lines aside, I must admit that darn song has been stuck in my head since Friday… The fact that it was our song in Prayers this morning did little to help expunge it from my beleaguered brain cells.
But the song brings me to this post. Because there should be an Olympics for fashion, too.
On Friday, I was frantically searching the interweb to find out who designed 16 year-old Nikki Yanofsky‘s gorgeous dress! NO ONE could tell me– what ever happened to the instantaneous nature of information dissemination in the computer age?! Yesterday (three days later!), I found out what I wanted to know and I was thrilled to learn that the designers of Nikki’s fantastic, reminiscent-of-a-stylized-maple-leaf, red silk strapless sheath were the guys in none other than one of LHR’s favourite design duos, Canadian twins Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared!
Not only did they design Nikki’s stunning dress (and her SHOES! Swoon!), it seems they were also responsible for Measha‘s fabulous gold number,
Nelly‘s skin-tight electric blue, assymmetrical-shouldered knock-out of a dress,
and for making Bryan Adams look smokin’ hot, er, better than he’s looked since the Summer of ’69!
How about Garou‘s Persian lambswool-trimmed, long & lean jacket? Mmmm….
And, of course, Ms. McLachlan looked, as ever, better than ice cream!
Bravo, boys– you made us proud!
And gave the fashion-obsessed among us some much-needed eye- and soul-candy amid all that sporty, Gore-tex-y stuff.
Now, if only K.D. had thought to get in touch with you– maybe you could have helped her find a suit that fit, a little something that would make her look as sublime as she always sounds.
I guess it has to rhyme. Probably not too many folks would even notice. Ah, the curse of being the grammar police!!!
The fashions were truly gorgeous. The Gourmet ladies commented on them. I’ll be proud to tell them that DSquared were the designers.
I was going to do an Olympics post with a focus on the clothing. I was loving it! Now it makes sense. I also loved all that all the random dancing people in the background were in all white. It really was beautiful. ANYWAY, I am doing a post but it’ll be on lisarodwell.com which so needs a post as it hasn’t had anything since beginning of December.
YAY for the DSquared guys.
Which brings me to this question: what did you think of the puffy white skirts? I feel they were a great idea, but not so successful in person. I did, however, LOVE the 60s hairbands and the booties! I feel more opaque tights on the ladies carrying the the signs with the countries’ names would have been a better idea, too.
Has anyone found a photo of the girls who stand behind the podium at the medal ceremonies? They seem to be sporting some kind of black macrame skirts… Huh?
I haven’t seen that yet. I’m sure if you search on flickr you could find some
