I wondered to our little corner of the web and realised that neither YYZ nor I had posted in months. I saw the snow falling on a photo of me in shorts and I thought this can’t go on. I must post and be appropriately dressed for the weather. So, I’m doing a quickie all about hats.

Here’s my newest knit creation – the Wellington Hat – modelled by my man in his new Pea Coat from Reiss. I knit it in Shacklewell Grey.

Here are some other hats that I think are rather cool made by the Gang Makers at Wool and the Gang.

Finally, here’s a hat that was NOT knitted that I picked up on my recent trip to Prague. It kind of reminds me of  Twiggy meets stewardess meets  I’m not sure what.

Yesterday, we went to Rob and Ann Marie’s wedding. It was filled with lots of great moments including Lucha Libre thumb wrestling, a brilliant band – tragic roundabout and lots of other surprises.

Ann Marie decided that the wedding attire should match the formal setting (one mooregate place) and for that in particular I thank her. I’ve been dying to wear this vintage number I bought with YYZ about 5 years ago in a store on Ossington in Toronto. I believe it was I Miss You. However, YYZ will correct me as her memory (at least related to shopping) is impecable.

When I bought the dress, I imagined I would cut it off at the knees so I could wear it more often. As you can see I never did cut it off and I’m glad I didn’t. Don’t worry, I never will. Like most dresses, my short-waistedness causes a little of an issue and should probably get the back adjusted, but it’s probably a thing I’ll never get around to. Other than the back, it fits like a glove and is SUPER duper comfortable. In a few pics, I see the girls need a bit of hoisting. Oh well. That’s age for you.

Here are a few shots of what I wore (and a few of what others wore). There’s more of the wedding over on flickr.

What I wore?
Dress: 60’s vintage number by Ruth Dukas (Canadian – born in Poland) bought with YYZ (read more about her here)
Ring: complete trash bought with YYZ on this trip to NYC
Earrings: Vintage silver screw-ons. I lost one 😦
Shoes: Silver Gucci (bought 2nd hand and worn here)
Jacket: Green Opera Jacket with blue lining bought with YYZ (no label – perhaps homemade)
Bag: Silver bag bought with YYZ (there’s a bit of a theme here). I believe Aldo.

In case you are wondering why there were all these Lucha Libres, Ann Marie is studying at Lucha Britannia. (Her Lucha name is Chow Mein.) If you are visiting me, ask me to take you to a night there (if they have one on). It is brilliant albeit a little scary.

LHR: MOOving On

Thursday was a big day. It was my last day at MOO where I have been for the last 5.5 years. In fact this entire week has been big. There was a party on Monday where all my colleagues “got fancy”. I wish there were some photos of me as I wore my gold DVF shirt (seen here), this little Pied a Terre skirt, these Armani tights and these chunky Aldo shoes. I wasn’t really sure how fancy the evening would be, so I felt that the shoes and tights made it more edgy than fancy. As you can see from the photos below, I shouldn’t have worried. The guys and gals didn’t let me down.

The evening was spectacular and I was happy to make it to the very end of the evening without any incidents.

Yesterday was my last day and it involved an external meeting. As a result, I had to sport a dress and some heels. The dress was the one I created on the now defunct Style-Shake (worn here). My shoes were ones I picked up before Christmas in NY at Macy’s. You can see them here with some black tights with red wolford fishnets worn over top. See them below.

It was a big wonderful week including parties and shop openings. Don’t the MOO assistants look cool?

Today was a big day for me.  My resignation was being made public at work. I knew after 5.5 years it was going to feel weird and also very sad to make it so final/so real with this announcement. So, I figured I should dress for the business.

Last week, while shopping for J’s birthday, I found this cute little tee.I love the idea of wearing a tie. So, I bought myself a present too. (don’t worry J did get something too). Then on Saturday, when J insisted we head to Uniqlo, I found some nice woolen tights that will become my new go-to. I bought 3 pairs – black, gray and burgundy. Watch this space, I’m sure they’ll be worn many times.

So, what do you think? Was it an apt outfit for my resignation announcement?

Please know that I am not making light of Hurricane/Super Storm Sandy and the death and destruction she wrought by using her name as the title of this post. Rather, LHR and I were actually in NYC over the weekend, celebrating our birthdays by putting our credit cards through their paces and my making sure we never went more than a few hours without wine.
We left the day before Sandy came to town.
Getting out from EWR was reminiscent of Escape From New York.
Or this (skip to minute 4:31).

This is the dress I wore on the plane home and also to school the next day.
I may or may not have worn it on the plane in a bid to hoodwink Canada Customs…. I’m not saying, either way.

I have long wanted a DVF wrap dress– the wrap dress is, after all, a girl’s best friend. Looks good on everyone, comfy, always stylish, versatile…. what’s not to love? I have several knock-off versions, but wanted the original.
So I treated myself to this silk one. And another sweater-knit one…. Ahem.
What?! It was my birthday!

Shopping at the DVF flagship store in the Meatpacking District was a pretty groovy experience, partly because Diane makes clothes for grown-up women, but largely because our salesgirl, Tanja, asked us this question:
“Would you ladies like some water or champagne while you try on your selections?”

There is only one answer to that. Obviously.

We also had good times trying on the same awesome dress.
(I’m wearing it in the photo– LHR opted for the more versatile top & leather skirt combo, in the end. Doesn’t she look amazing in it?
Way to get us drunk & then upsell, Tanja! You’ve got Employee of the month in the bag, girl.)

What could be more appropriate to wear on the day Sandy came to town than a dress with clouds all over it?

Thanks, LHR, for a truly awesome weekend. I had the best birthday EVER!

I know you might not believe me, but I have a number of outfits to post. I’ve taken a fair few snaps lately before  heading down to Shoreditch to work each morning. I just need to take them off my phone and post them here. I will. I promise.

In the meantime, J sent me this photo he snapped of me a number of weeks back. We had been out and about one Saturday visiting potential future flats. We stopped in at this little shop just off Brick Lane where I picked up this sweatshirt because I had misjudged the weather and needed a bit of warmth. The tee I had on was just not cutting it. I popped in to the store next to this door and picked up this matching sweatshirt which J now affectionately calls my Cornelius sweatshirt. I’m sure you get the connection.

New Cornelius Sweatshirt … with matching doors and Nike trainers

We loved the door so much, I made J pose for the blog as well. As you can see, he matched my shoelaces on my new Nike trainers (inspired by the Olympic trend) I had picked up in NYC.

The rest of the day involved one of intense people watching …

Graffiti Bride on Cheshire Street, London

and then enjoying some of the best live music in our neighbourhood Gillett Square for the Vortex’s 25th anniversary. What a wonderful day it was!  Here are a few shots from that afternoon featuring the Square’s more colourful characters.

The People Band

Electric Jalaba – Now that’s an outfit!

This band was FABULOUS as was the lead singer’s outfit. They’re called Electric Jalaba and I can’t begin to give you a sense of their music. So, cool and sadly not on spotify.

Anyway, I wouldn’t say this post is entirely a fashion story but at least I can prove I’m not walking around London in my birthday suit.

YYZ: Chapel of Love

Since I was taking a lot of photos, I don’t have any photos of myself!
Luckily, my cousin took some so you can see what I wore to my brother & S’s wedding.

I ended up with three dresses, as I wrote about earlier in the summer. Naturally there is not a single photo of me in either of my lovely vintage frocks. 😦 But there are a few of me in the Karen Millen I wore to the wedding itself.

At the very last minute, I decided my existing turquoise shoes just didn’t look right– both colour and style were just a tad off. So I raced across to the good ol’ Dufferin Mall and snapped up a pair of darker turquoise shoes on sale at Le Chateau. Disaster averted– whew! I just know you share my sense of relief, Interwebs.

What I love about the photos below (besides how happy everyone looks) is the way that the bride’s side of the family are all in similar colours and so is the groom’s side!
(Full disclosure: I made sure M chose a shirt and tie that would look nice with my dress in photos! 🙂 )

I “designed” the outfits my mum and grandmother are wearing! In other words, I drew sketches and the brilliant Alex at Tessi here in Toronto made them reality. She is so talented!

Here’s a bit more wedding wear for you.

The dress and the veil:

I made the veil, incorporating the birdcage style the bride wanted and the gorgeous vintage ivory comb my mum had bought her. It once belonged to a diplomat’s wife in 1940s Montevideo, Uruguay, which is where my mum found it at a market. Cool, no?

One of the bridesmaids had pretty fascinators made for herself and the matron of honour to wear. In keeping with the theme of “bright colours,” the flower girls were decked out in the cutest ever fluffy tutus, pink Chucks (the groom and his besties wore custom-designed Chucks) and sunny yellow blooms.
It’s just too bad the kids weren’t cute at all, eh?

All photos here were taken by Lucas Jarvis.

You may remember that my baby brother (he’s 40, but he’ll always be my baby brother to me!) got married this summer.
To the most amazing girl– I cannot thank him enough for choosing me such an awesome sister-in-law!
(It’s all about me, right?)

This is a blog about fashion, so it may well be that you, Gentle Reader, are wondering where all the wedding finery posts are. Turns out, I’ve been pretty busy over here lately, where you can see some of the wedding-y goodness, if you like. But this quickie is my first post-wedding Fashion Is Danger post. It’s just a tease, really, but I promise to post more in the coming days.

Here’s a glimpse, to whet your appetite!

All photos here taken by my talented cousin, Lucas Jarvis, Wedding Photog Extraordinaire.
